Do The Phanatic Dance!

It doesn’t matter if you root for the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Mets, or the Yomiuri Giants. Anyone who gets any enjoyment from the game of baseball on any level cannot deny at least the tiniest bit of affection towards The Phillie Phanatic.

The Phanatic, the legendary mascot for the Philadelphia Phillies, is a six-foot-five furry green monster. He’s well-known for smashing opponents batting helmets, “hexing” opposing hitters, and grabbing his stomach to do the “Phanatic Dance.”

Below is a video of the Phillies mascot in one of his many different costumes, doing his dance with fellow Phillies fan Monty G:

What’s amazing is the Phanatic has found a singer, Monty G, who boasts a stomach rival to his own. Unfortunately, the man’s intelligence can be called into question, or at the very least, his skills with simple mathematical equations. Monty G declares near the conclusion that the Phillies should go for a “3-peat” in 2010, which is impossible due to their defeat at the hands of the New York Yankees last autumn.

However, if this writer were to ever meet Monty G, he would probably keep these comments to himself, since Mr. G is… well…. massive.

This is hardly the most glorious moment for the Phillie Phanatic, however. The team’s marketing department has declared the Phanatic’s most memorable moments were the parades down Broad Street following the Phillies World Series victories in 1980 and 2008.

Of course, true fans of the Phanatic will always remember when he was assaulted by long-time Los Angeles Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda during a nationally televised game, or more recently in an episode of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia when two “passionate Philly fans” help the “Phrenetic” beat up Charlie Kelly dressed as GreenMan.
