Cash for Caulkers: House Approves $6 Billion Plan
We love two things here at FingBing: puns and saving money. Mostly puns. So we’re pretty excited for the Home Star Energy Retrofit Act, a.k.a. “cash for caulkers.”
Hopefully more successful than its clunky predecessor, cash for caulkers will spend $6 billion of government money on rebates for homeowners who make their homes more energy efficient. Such green changes include: installing insulating doors and impact windows and replacing heaters and air conditioners.
Homeowners that invest in professional help will be eligible for up to $3,000 in rebates, while D.I.Y.-ers will get up to $250. Republicans added a $250,000 income limit for participating homeowners — but they love doing things like that.
The bill still has to go through the Senate this summer, when lawmakers will discuss exactly where said $6 billion is coming from.
PS: Is Tim Allen available? We’d love to see some motivational PSAs involving the Tool Time alum and President Obama.
