New iPhone Gizmodo: The Real Deal

A word to the wise: If you ever find yourself carrying the prototype to a new version of one of the most coveted gadgets on the market, don’t leave it in a bar.

That’s what happened with the new iPhone 2010 — it was discovered in a watering hole in Redwood City, California, after an Apple employee left it behind.

Gizmodo confirmed the new iPhone as real after taking it apart and finding bona fide Apple components, although the device was camouflaged in a 3GS case. Notable features include:

  • Sleek, flatter look
  • Front AND back cameras with optional flash
  • Higher-resolution display

The iPhone prototype reportedly belonged to Gray Powell, a software engineer for Apple who recently Tweeted: “I underestimated how good German beer is.” Which might explain how the phone got left in the bar.

A leak of this magnitude is definitely a big deal, especially for a company like Apple, whose upgrades are always shrouded in secrecy. Jobs & Co. have since picked up the iPhone prototype from Gizmodo headquarters, ABC reports.
