Forbes Billionaire List Signals a Global Economy
The annual Forbes billionaire list just came out, with especially impressive contributions from Asia and Mexico.
The number of Asian moguls is higher than ever before, with 234 Asian-Pacific billionaires showing up on this year’s list, encompassing 23 percent of the world’s billionaires – last year, there were 130 billionaires, or 16 percent.
The richest man in the world, however, is a Mexican tycoon named Carlos Slim Helu, owner of the telecommunications firm American Movil. Helu, worth $53.5 billion, gained $18.5 billion this year alone, allowing him to pass Bill Gates’ $53 billion net worth.
Carlos Slim Helu is Forbes’ first top billionaire from a developing nation.
