Albert Gonzalez Gets 20 Years for Hacking
A Boston court enforced one of the harshest sentences to date for computer hacking and identify theft – a 20-year prison term for 28-year-old Albert Gonzalez.
Gonzalez had a key role in the largest online credit scam in history, for which he stole millions of credit and debit card numbers from such stores as Dave & Buster’s, DSW, Forever 21, Barnes & Noble, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls. TJX, the company that owns TJ Maxx and Marshalls, reported $171.5 million in losses as a result of the scam.
Gonzalez pled guilty under a plea deal and was eligible for 15 to 25 years in prison. He’s in court again today for a possible 17 to 25 year sentence for additional thefts.
